Well done under 6ds. Another great game with lots of fun and smiles had by all the team. Confidence is growing weekly and to see how the boys are all trying so hard to get those goals, and yes with 10 goals actually scored – wow it was amazing to watch from the sideline. Keep going boys, enjoy those Saturday morning matches and we parents look forward to watching you play with such ‘gusto’ each week.
Well we came up against a strong Engadine side in round 2 to at the Ridge. We unfortunately had 4 players out and could only play with 10. The girls worked hard in the first half and were only down 2-1 at half time (we played with only 9 for about 10 minutes of the half). In the second half the lack of numbers slowly wore us down and despite continued resolute defence they finally opened us up in the last 5-10 minutes where we conceeded 3 goals.
They were a strong opposition and it will be a true test next time we play them with hopefully our full complement.

Well we had a great game again against Bundeena at the Ridge. Our guys started on fire and Bundeena eventually reined us in but we managed to hold on. Great goals shared by the whole team again and fun was had by all.

Welcome back to all of our players from 2012. A warm welcome to 4 new players for season 2013. Congratulations Joey, Dominic, Sam and Dylan for being selected to play in A grade.
Our first game this season was against Heathcote and what a game we saw. We had a few guys (Joey, Liam and Christian) out and thankfully Justin was able to provide us with at least 1 sub.
The game started at a frantic pace with Heathcote applying pressure. Josh Lake made a couple of brilliant saves on the line early in the piece which proved to be crucial in the end. Michael had a great game in goals filling in for Joey. Some great saves and excellent kicks provided us with stability at the back. Cole, Harrison and Charlie worked well together at the back and all had very solid games. Our midfield of Jack, Dominic and Dylan showed some excellent skill at times which provided us with many attacking opportunities. Josh I, Sam and Stefan were our 3 strikers today and all gave 100% effort. We did have a few good chances today but a combination of good keeping and luck on Heathcote’s side prevented us from slotting one away.
The final score was 0-0 . A very even game I thought and an excellent first game for the new Ridgeback lineup.
Our first game of the season was against a well spirited Engadine side at Anzac Oval. Our girls prospered 7-2 and displayed the skills that I knew they have acquired. Claudia and Melody jagged a brace each with Georgia P and Georgia L scoring goals as well. Catalina in her first competition game ever also scored a great goal. Georgia L and Sabrina did great jobs in goals and Breanna and Stephanie defending stoutly. Emily, Daniella, Brianna, and Isabella did stellar jobs in various roles. Monique can hold her head up for her first game ever as well and Jazmyne played an unselfish, provider role up front.
Let’s keep the fun up for the year girls!

Our first game of the season and it was great to see both the Bangor players and the Barden Ridge players gain so much enjoyment from the game. All of our 6 players scored goals and the entire team contributed to all facets of the game. Let’s have that much fun each week guys and this will be a fun season!

Round #1: Ridge 0 vs Gymea 1
Welcome back Ridgies and an extra welcome to out new team mates! The 1st game back for the season unfortunately Gymea being too strong in their attack and coming through for the win. We were the unfortunate result of the summer break which saw many of our team a bit rusty on settling back into holding their positions. But an encouraging pep-talk at half time saw our guys come out fighting with a renewed gusto in the2nd half – it wasn’t going to be over ‘til the whistle was loud and clear. Out on the wings our midfielders Jamie-Lee, Jess and Jay never gave up on their constant attacking attempts on the wings to cross the ball through to our forwards James and Tommy, who were unlucky at the goal face, with 3 and 2 (respectively) being held up by the Gymea goalkeeper. Defensive midfielders, Jake and Brooke, had to cross alot of ground in the 2nd with plenty of play in both halves of the field. There were no idle moments for our backs today: Liam, Patrick, and Catherine, who consistently stuck on their opponents like an annoying rash throughout the whole game conscious that they had to be there, alert and steadfast in defence, to help our goalkeeper. In one aggressive repeated attack mode by Gymea, Jay dropped back and came through with an extended foot on the goal line to help to prevent a point that had been double crossed from a corner kick. In goals today was Matt, who was attentive and under constant pressure, at times using bodyline techniques – diving on the ball, preventing 16 from crossing the line, and his efforts today earned him the Player of the Match – well done!
Under 7B2 Match report 6/4/13
The opponents were the Redbacks. It was drizzly morning at North Caringbah.
The game started well for the Ridgebacks. Luke was often to be seen in the midfield and would blast the ball down the field whenever it came within range. Andrew was tracking the play of the ball and intercepting plays against the Barden Ridge defence. Zachary was doing a great job passing the ball to the other members of his team.
Early in the game, Sam passed the ball to Andrew who took a kick at goal, however, the ball ricocheted off an opponent who was stubbornly entrenched in the mouth of the goal. Thankfully Kirana was nearby and quickly blasted the ball into the back of the net, taking the team’s first official goal for the season. Soon afterwards Sam scored a long distance goal, through a gap between the opposition defenders.
The Redbacks responded in kind, with two goals in succession against the Ridgebacks. One goal taking advantage of a massive lapse in the Ridgeback defence, the other goal was scored from more than half the length of the field away.
The Ridgebacks played on with determination. Ryan could often be seen taking the ball down the field, making some great individual runs towards goal. Eventually the team worked the ball up into the mouth of the Redbacks goal. Sam smashed the ball past an illegal goalie to score the Ridgebacks’ third goal.
Sam and Andrew saved several concerted attempts at goal by the Redbacks. Ryan was injured in the line of duty and had to be substituted. The Ridgebacks were reeling under the intense pressure. Twice more the Redbacks scored. Ryan had bravely returned to the field. He had been passed the ball and took it near to the Redbacks goal. He was taken down a second time by an opposition player and had to be substituted again. Sam took the penalty kick right on the buzzer. The ball hit the goal post but did not go in. Redbacks won 4 to 3. Well done done both teams.
ROUND 2 – RIDGEBACKS VS GRAYS POINT
The boys played well on Saturday against Grays Point. We were initally behind 2-0, but then bounced back to return a winning score of 5-3. The boys all moved around the field and passed the ball to line up the 5 goals. Well Done to Ashton, Joshua, James and Nathan for all scoring. Must be the new coach!!!!
Well done and best of luck next week.
Aaron
